Automatic Port configuration The DGS-1248T is truly plug-and-play. All RJ-45 ports support auto MDI/MDIX, so there is no longer a need to use cross-over cables or an up-link port. The auto-MDI/MDIX feature will automatically detect whether the switch is connected to another switch or an end-station device and configure the port accordingly. If the DGS-1248T detects a switch connected to one of its ports, it will automatically configure that port to act as an uplink. If the DGS-1248T detects a computer or end station device, the port auto-configures to a standard port. The confusion over cross-over cabling is a thing of the past.
