Wire mesh gasket

From initial Joe usage i think the wire mesh gasket will provide a better seal than the original felt gasket. Only time will tell if this is more durable.

Easy replacement

Its almost as easy to replace as the felt. The fiber glass is a bit tougher to cut, I saw someone suggest tin snips. A second pair of hands is helpful, its just a bit unwieldy on your own.

Replacement Gasket

First off, I was alittle surprised I needed to replace these gaskets after just 9 months of use. This is a very different gasket than the original one that comes with the grill. It didn't come with any instructions, so I just went by the video that John Setzler has on the Kamado Joe Cooking Channel. The main difference is the video with John shows a gasket that also comes for the chimney. There wasn't a replacement gasket included with this replacement.

Love the gasket, hate there is no instructions

I love how this new gasket looks and how much more effective it will be at keeping the heat and temp consistent. What I wasn't enthused about was absolutely no guide on how to install it specifically the joint where the two ends come together. I got it done but when there is only enough to do this once I didn't want to screw it up.

Kevlar seal

The Kamado Joe Kevlar replacement for the felt seal is not adhering to the base. We followed the instructions to the letter. Still not sticking. The glue that is used on the Kevlar is not adequate.

Adhesive doesn't work

My smoker is only a year old but needed the wire mesh gasket replaced as smoke was able to exit when using temperature probes during my last few cooks. I thought I would give this a shot even though the existing reviews were not so great. Those reviews are spot on. The glue/adhesive does not work.

Question:
I have an original BJ from 2016. The gasket is shot and I am replacing it with the fiberglass gasket. I'm confused as to the replacement procedure since I didn't get any install instructions. It seems in most videos, they only show the bowl gasket being replaced but no mention of the dome. I'm not sure if there has been a design change on the newer BJ's which precluded the dome gasket. So the question is, am I still supposed to replace both upper and lower or is just replacing the lower sufficient? Thanks for any help.

Answer:
I have an original Big Joe, and after removing/cleaning both the top and bottom gaskets, simply applied the new gasket material to only the bowl side. It worked great as the new gasket is much thicker. Very nice seal. If you applied the gasket to both surfaces, I think the lid would stay ajar.

Answer:
Hi, Jon. It would be best to replace both gaskets with new felt gaskets.

Question:
Can you use this on the original Big Joe?
Was This Helpful?
Answer:
Hi Mark. Yes, this will fit your original Big Joe.

Asked by MarkAnswered by Joey, BBQGuys Expert

Answer:
Yes, you may have to cut it to fit.

Answer:
It worked great for me. Due to the thickness of the seal, I only applied it to the bottom side. The lid seals great with it's bare edge against the bottom seal. It's been going strong for two years now. Nick

Question:
I like to do high-temp pizzas and reverse sears. How high is the temperature rating for the fiberglass gasket?
Was This Helpful?
Answer:
Hello. Kamado Joe has not released the exact heat rating, but it can stand up to as much heat as you need to cook a pizza, as it holds up to heat better than the felt gasket.

Question:
Can this fiberglass gasket be used on a XL Big Green Egg?

Hi Darrell. There has been positive feedback from people who have used Kamado Joe fiberglass gaskets on their Big Green Eggs. However since it was designed specifically for the Big Joe, we cannot guarantee that it will work for you.

When will my item arrive?

Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we’ve all come to expect for small parcels, so it’s important that you’re prepared and understand what’s required of you well before delivery day.

  • Most freight products ship on a pallet
  • Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
  • We’ll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.

For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:

Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can’t be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we’ve only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.

For carriers that deliver without an appointment:

Carriers that deliver without an appointment don’t require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren’t required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you’re home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you’re out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
